Extended Biography


1985:

Opened my eyes for the first time.

1992:

Learned to bake German chocolate cake from scratch.

1998:

Joined photography club at school. Started using a Nikkormat. Became addicted to darkroom printing.

2000:

Began scanning negatives and using Photoshop.

2001:

Bought Nikon N80. Walked the Camino de Santiago through Northern Spain with my mother, arriving just before my 16th birthday. Life expanded before my eyes.

2002:

First images published: The Mindfulness Bell magazine featured a short series of my images from the Plum Village Monastery, France.

2003:

First photograph sold, Fishbay Gallery. Learned to make a mean Paad Thai.

2003-2007:

Bard College. 35 mm B&W, 4x5 B&W, medium-format color. Days in the darkroom, weeks in the computer lab, photographed my first wedding.

2006:

Traveled to Morocco: lived with a family in the Fez Medina, studied Classical Arabic.

2006-2007:

Photographed and exhibited Constructions series at Bard.

2007-2008:

Directed Subul Assalam Center for the Arabic Language in Fez. Photographed The Western Kingdom. Learned to cook falafel.

2009:

Full-time freelancer. Photographed In the Footsteps of the Buddha and Pilgrimage to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Began Dreamland series.

2010:

Searched for the end of the road with my father, photographing Dreamland I. Work continues on Dreamland II & III in Fez, Morocco, Istanbul and Konya, Turkey.
